AARP TAX-AIDE
FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION

Free income tax service is available for Green and surrounding County residents from the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) Foundation Tax-Aide program.  The IRS recognizes this program for having a high degree of accuracy on returns filed last year.  Electronic filing will be available free of charge.   Refunds are directly deposited in 5 to 10 days.  AARP membership is NOT required for assistance.

Brenda Cook is the Local Coordinator for this program, which is designed to assist older persons and low to moderate income persons in completing their income tax forms and informing them of the special benefits available.  The counselors are retired business people with considerable experience in tax matters, who are trained and tested by the Internal Revenue Service to prepare returns for older taxpayers and low income persons.  Past experience has indicated that many of the taxpayers were unaware of special benefits that they were entitled to claim.  While some may not be required to file because of limited income, they may need to file in order to take advantage of benefits available to them.”  This year’s counselors include Bettie Jo Russell, Jolene Turner, and Jo Ann O’Banion.

AARP tax aide volunteers will prepare taxes on a first-come, first-serve basis for anyone at their walk-in location each Tuesday from February 2 through April 13.
