Greensburg, KY – Andrew Houk’s discipline at the plate and Hazel Sharpe’s all-around performance powered a double dose of dominance for the Green County Dragons and Lady Dragons, as both varsity squads rolled past Hart County on Monday.
Dragons Blast Past Raiders, 16-6
Andrew Houk didn’t record an official at-bat until he launched a three-run homer in the second inning, but his impact was undeniable from the jump. The senior drew four walks and anchored a relentless offensive effort that propelled the Dragons to a commanding 16-6 win over the Hart County Raiders.
Green County jumped on the board in the bottom of the first. Hayden Blakeman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, followed by a two-run double from Larson Matney. Houston Hodges brought home another with a ground-out to cap a four-run frame.
Despite the fast start, Hart County punched back with five runs in the second, highlighted by RBI singles from Zak Wilson, Austin Martin, and Brayden Minor.
The Dragons responded with a vengeance. A six-run second inning, fueled by Houk’s towering shot to center, flipped the game on its head and gave Green County a 10-5 lead they never relinquished.
Hodges got the win on the mound, tossing three innings and allowing just four earned runs while striking out three. Cash Jones closed the door with a scoreless inning in relief.
Drew Squires went a perfect 4-for-4 to lead the team in hits, while Blakeman drove in four runs and Matney chipped in two hits. In total, Green County worked 12 walks, showcasing patience and plate discipline throughout the lineup.
Minor and Owen led Hart County offensively with two hits apiece, while Wilson and Ethan Booher each drove in a run.
Lady Dragons Dominate with 14-0 Shutout
It was all Green County in the softball matchup, as Hazel Sharpe dazzled both in the circle and at the plate to lead the Lady Dragons to a lopsided 14-0 win over the Lady Raiders.
Sharpe tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just five hits, striking out four, and walking none. She also went 3-for-4 with three singles to pace the offense.
Green County exploded early, plating three runs in the first on an Ava Hickerson bases-clearing double. They added three more in the second with contributions from Sharpe, Gracie Estes, and another RBI from Hickerson after being hit by a pitch.
The third inning saw more of the same, with Mackenzie Johnson and Kaylee Judd delivering back-to-back run-scoring hits, and Estes tripling in another.
By the end of the day, the Lady Dragons had collected 14 hits. Hickerson and Judd each drove in four runs, while Sharpe and Kinsley Robertson each recorded three hits. Johnson and Estes added multi-hit efforts as well.
Defensively, Green County was flawless, not committing a single error. Hickerson led the team with six defensive chances.
Chloe Tweedy was a bright spot for Hart County, going 3-for-3 at the top of the lineup.
Both teams have punched their tickets to the Championship of The 18th District Tournament! They will both match up against the LaRue County Hawks in the final game of the Tournament!
