Doug Pickett was born December 5, 1931, in Green County, KY to the late Ewell Hollan Pickett Sr and Anna Mae Twyman. He departed this life on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Norton Woman’s and Childrens Hospital in Louisville, having attained the age of ninety-one years, eleven months, and twenty-five days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church. Doug was a 1950 graduate of Greensburg High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy, served in the Korean War, and served in the Beachmaster Unit One (BMU-1). He was a Mail Carrier for 30 some years for the United States Postal Service in Greensburg. He was a Life Member of James L. Pruitt Post 5813 Veterans of Foreign Wars Greensburg and a Rod Lowe Post 124 American Legion Greensburg, KY Life Member. Alongside his brother, Sonny he was the Deposit Bank Little League Baseball Coach. He was a Long Time Member of the Green County Fair Board, an avid woodworker and nearly made one thousand cedar boxes that He gave as gifts. He loved Greensburg, loved to fish and he loved the river. He was an avid KY Wildcat fan and liked the Cincinnati Reds.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ada Lou Bardin Pickett on June 16, 2015 having wed on December 16, 1955, His brother: Hollan (Sonny) Pickett Jr, and infant brother Jack Oliver Pickett.
Doug is survived by one daughter: Millie Pickett of Greensburg; one son and daughter-in-law: Brad and Vicki Pickett of Callahan, Florida. Four grandchildren: Sabrina Sebastian (David McCormack), Summer Sebastian (Brooke Shaw), Brad Pickett Jr., Chad Pickett (Stacy Pickett). Five Great Grandchildren: Elise McCormack, Kellen McCormack, Lincoln Shaw, Raeleigh Pickett, and Ryker James Pickett. Also surviving: two sisters: Betty Lou Cook of Greensburg, Anita Brown of Elizabethtown, sisters-in-law: Gayle Bardin Hines of Danville, Beverly Bardin Gaddie of Russellville: Janet White Pickett and Betty Bardin Milby of Greensburg: one brother-in-law: Cotton Bardin of Greensburg plus a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Doug Pickett will be conducted at 1 p.m. Central Time Monday, December 4, 2023, at Greensburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Greensburg Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Central Time Sunday December 3, 2023, and after 7 a.m. Monday until the funeral time at Greensburg United Methodist Church.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to the Greensburg United Methodist Church. These can be made at the church or at Foster Toler Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg.
