After a challenging 2024 season, the Green County Dragons are entering the 2025 football season with a renewed sense of purpose and a chip on their shoulder. With a 2-9 record last year — including wins over Casey County and LaRue County — the Dragons are determined to flip the script and prove they belong in the Class 2A playoff conversation.
The season ended with a tough first-round playoff loss to a powerful Lexington Christian squad, but the lessons learned from last year’s struggles are fueling this year’s motivation.
While the Dragons bid farewell to several key seniors — including Tristan Bell, Joshua Hall, Houston Hodges, Bryar McCubbins, and Weston Wrights — there’s no shortage of leadership and fire left in the locker room. Coach Phelps and his staff have worked hard this offseason to develop a team that’s hungry, focused, and ready to compete.
The road to redemption begins on August 22nd, when the Dragons hit the road to take on a revamped Grant County team at Bourbon County. It’s the first test of what the program hopes will be a comeback season — one that reminds the rest of 2A not to count out the Dragons.
With grit, experience, and a renewed hunger, Green County is set to make some noise in 2025. Don’t sleep on the Dragons — they’re ready to breathe fire once again.
