Lady Dragons Storm Back; Dragons Dominate in Double Victory Over LaRue

Lady Dragons Rally Late to Edge LaRue County in Thrilling Finish

It was a night to remember for Green County fans as the Lady Dragons pulled off a dramatic 7-6 comeback victory over the LaRue County Varsity Hawks on Wednesday.

Trailing 6-5 heading into the top of the seventh, Green County surged ahead when Ava Hickerson came up clutch with a two-run single that gave her team the lead for good. The Lady Dragons had been down 6-2 in the fourth before beginning their comeback.

LaRue County got on the board early thanks to an RBI triple from Isabelle Hayes in the bottom of the first. Green County responded in the second with a solo home run from Kaylee Judd and a sacrifice fly from Faith Ray, which allowed her to score on a tag-up, putting the Lady Dragons ahead briefly.

The Hawks regained control in the third inning. Heidi Tipton knocked in a run with a single before Emmaline Engle launched a three-run homer to center field, swinging the momentum back in LaRue County’s favor.

But the Lady Dragons weren’t finished. In the seventh inning, they erupted for five runs on three hits, highlighted by Hickerson’s game-changing single that drove in the tying and go-ahead runs.

Judd earned the win in relief, delivering three and two-thirds scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out two. Starter Hazel Sharpe worked three and one-third innings, yielding six runs on seven hits with one strikeout. For LaRue County, Tipton went the distance, pitching all seven innings and striking out 10, despite allowing seven runs on seven hits.

Green County’s offense was well-rounded, with hits coming from Kinsley Robertson, Gracie Estes, Hickerson, Sharpe, Judd, Hayli Milby, and Carrington Jewell. Judd and Hickerson each drove in a pair of runs. Defensively, the Lady Dragons were flawless, committing no errors. Hickerson led the field with six chances.

LaRue County racked up 10 hits, led by Payton Druen, who went 3-for-4. Engle led in RBIs with three, while Hayes and Tipton added multiple hits. Hayes also drew two of the team’s six walks. Defensively, the Hawks also played error-free ball, with Laura Austin recording a game-high 11 putouts.


Dragons Handle LaRue County in 5-2 Victory

On the baseball side, the Green County Dragons Varsity secured a 5-2 win over the 2025 LaRue County Varsity Hawks in Wednesday’s matchup.

The Dragons struck early in the second inning. Keelan Curry doubled to center, followed by a walk to Caleb Corbin and an RBI single from Cash Jones—each bringing in a run to put Green County in front.

Houston Hodges added an insurance run in the third with an RBI double, stretching the lead to 4-1. Andrew Houk later blasted a solo homer to center in the fifth to make it 5-1.

LaRue County managed to trim the deficit in the sixth, courtesy of a solo shot from Dekker Thomas.

Tatum Durrett picked up the win on the mound for Green County, allowing just one earned run over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Hayden Blakeman closed it out to earn the save. Cole Miller took the loss for LaRue County, going five innings while allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out five.

Offensively, Houk, Curry, Hodges, and Jones each tallied an RBI, while Larson Matney led the team with two hits in three trips to the plate. The Dragons also turned a key double play in the field.

For the Hawks, Miller and Thomas each collected a pair of hits, and both Thomas and Kobe Cahoe drove in a run. Like their softball counterparts, LaRue County played clean defensively, not committing an error. Ryan Hughes anchored the defense with nine plays.
