Adair County, KY – The Campbellsville Lady Eagles struggled to contain a late-game rally from the Marion County Lady Knights, falling 16-1 on Monday in a tough matchup that was largely decided by a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning.
The Lady Eagles had a solid start, but the Lady Knights jumped out early in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. Marion County took a 5-0 lead, thanks to a solo home run from Million and a series of singles and a double that plated additional runs. Gribbins, Farris, Thompson, and Gaddie all contributed to the early scoring.
Campbellsville couldn’t find the answer offensively in the first few frames, and the game quickly got out of hand. The turning point came in the bottom of the fourth when Marion County sent nine runners across the plate on six hits, including several key singles and walks. Hoek, Gaddie, Cox, and Farris all delivered RBIs during the rally, pushing the lead to 16-1.
Riley Underwood, who took the loss for Campbellsville, pitched 3.2 innings, allowing 16 runs (seven earned) on 17 hits while striking out one and walking four. Despite the tough outing, Underwood continued to battle through, but the Lady Eagles were unable to regain their footing after the big inning.
Madi Richards led the offense for Campbellsville, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. MyLeah Read and Underwood each contributed a hit as well. However, the Lady Eagles were unable to string together a sustained attack to challenge Marion County’s dominant performance.
On the mound, Mattingly earned the win for Marion County, going four innings, giving up just three hits and one run while striking out four and walking one. The Lady Knights’ offense was relentless, racking up 17 hits in total, with Thompson leading the way with four RBIs from the No. 7 spot in the lineup. Gaddie and Farris each added three hits of their own, while Million drew three walks, helping fuel the offensive onslaught.
