Ray Thomas “Tommy” VanArsdale of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Luther VanArsdale and Lauline Jeffries VanArsdale, was born on Friday, October 7, 1938 in the Exie Community and departed this life on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his home. He was 86 years, 9 months, and 19 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was the proud owner of Central Furniture Company that he opened in 1963. His favorite thing to do was to travel the world and go on cruises, where he would bring back trinkets to decorate his and Linda’s home. Tommy traveled to 6 continents and every state in the United States. He was a member of American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124, Greensburg Masonic Lodge F&AM #54, Greensburg Rotary Club, and Green County Country Club.
Tommy served our country honorably, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, but served no war time.
He was united in marriage to Linda Louise Kessler VanArsdale on June 16, 1961, who preceded him in death on January 4, 2025.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Crickett and Paul “Mel” Smith of Greensburg; two grandchildren: Paul Thomas Smith and Audrie of Richmond, Sydney Smith of Greensburg; a great-grandson: Xavier Logan Smith of Richmond; a brother: Robert VanArsdale of Greensburg; a sister: Rhonda Wright of Greensburg; special caregivers and friends: Nikki Curry, Annette Bagby, Connie Huston, Tom “Kool” Akin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Besides his wife and parents, Tommy was also preceded in death by a sister: Joann VanArsdale; two sisters-in-law: Becky Bell, Era VanArsdale; a brother-in-law: Wayne Wright.

The funeral services for Ray Thomas “Tommy” VanArsdale will be conducted at 11 A.M., Central Time, Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Greasy Creek Cemetery with full military honors by the Marion County Honor Guard. Bro. Brenson Bishop and Bro. Kevin Brantley officiating.
Visitation is requested from 4 until 8 P.M., Central Time, Monday, July 28, 2025 at Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church and after 7 A.M., Central Time, at the church until time of the funeral service.
Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church or Greasy Creek Cemetery Fund which can all be made at the funeral home.
