Dr. Donna M. Elkins has recently been named Administrative Dean of Campbellsville University’s College of Mental Health.
The College of Mental Health was established in 2025 and is expanding with new online graduate programs and the existing undergraduate psychology degree. Elkins will continue to serve as Associate VP for Institutional Effectiveness and as Professor in the School of Mass Communication, in addition to this new role.
Originally from Kentucky, Elkins has a long career in higher education in the state, as well as a commitment to Christian higher education. Prior to joining Campbellsville University in July 2023, she was Dean of Online Programs and a Professor of Communication at Spalding University as well as Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Communication at Jefferson Community and Technical College.
“This is a perfect time to be focusing our social work, counseling, therapy, and psychology programs into a College of Mental Health,”Elkins said, “The need for mental health services continues to grow in Kentucky and beyond, and CU is poised not only to provide high-quality degrees but also to prepare the next generation of leaders in social work, counseling, and therapy.”

Elkins holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Kentucky, an MA in Political Science from the University of Louisville, an MA in Mass Communication from Morehead State University and a BA in Journalism and Government from Morehead State University. Most recently, she earned an MA in Biblical Studies: Theology at Kentucky Christian University.
